On Tuesday, the House Committee on the Judiciary will vote on H.R. 111, a resolution calling for Attorney General Jeff Sessions to release all non-classified documents related to Trump's conflicts of interest and ties to Russia. Currently, 67 Members of Congress are signed on to this bill as cosponsors, none of them Republican, of course. This makes our position tough, of course, because we know going into this that Conaway is not going to be the first guy to break ranks with the GOP.
Still, we need to push him to support this investigation and let him know that not supporting a full investigation puts him on the wrong side of history.
Here is a suggested script (provided in part by Indivisible):
Hi, my name is______. I live at ________. I am calling today because I am concerned that Representative Conaway is fine with letting Trump use the Oval Office to
enrich himself and his family and fine with possible bribery from
foreign governments, like Russia. Donald Trump refuses to completely
divest himself from businesses and holdings he has in multiple countries
around the world. He refuses to release his tax returns to prove he
isn’t beholden to foreign interests. There is also an abundance of
evidence that his campaign staff were in frequent communication with
Russian officials and that his administration tried to interfere with an
FBI investigation into it. This isn’t a partisan issue; it’s about the
integrity of the Oval Office and of our democracy. House Resolution 111
would help ensure that Donald Trump is acting on behalf of the American
people, not himself or the Russian government.
Call today, or send a postcard (or several).
